"Lack of fitness and being overweight have always been a problem for me. They have caused significant self-esteem and self-confidence issues on top of the obvious risks to my health. I have tried doing the gym thing but I always found it hard to motivate myself to go and I was painfully shy so steered away from the group fitness classes. I spent most of my time on the cardio machines and never really pushed myself as hard as I should have been.
Through work I met Kath but it took a long time for me to find the courage to look in to joining up with Blitzfit. I was worried that I wouldn't be any good at it and would just embarrass myself. It wasn't until a friend mentioned that she wanted to find a boot camp group to join that I mentioned Blitzfit to her and also plucked up the courage to join. I went along to my first session alone and was extremely nervous, but it took no time at all for that nervousness to go as the group was so welcoming and Kath and Emma were amazing. I found the session completely different to anything I had done before and I absolutely loved it. It didn't matter that my fitness level was lower than others in the session. The support and encouragement in the group was exactly what I needed to really start enjoying getting fitter and more active.
I started going to sessions three days a week and now, four months on, I am smashing goals I never thought I'd actually be able to reach. I love running and the increase in my strength and fitness from going to boot camp has meant I have significantly improved my 5km and 10km times. I’m now also hoping to finally be able to do my first half marathon next year!
Having Rheumatoid Arthritis and also damage to one of my knees from a previous injury means that sometimes I have a lot of issues with pain. I was worried that these issues might mean I would have to miss boot camp sessions but this is absolutely not the case. Kath and Emma have been amazing at coming up with alternatives for me to do during the sessions if there is something I'm finding I can't do. If I can't run because of my knee, then it's an upper body and core session for me. It's great knowing they are so willing to work with me so that I am still able to get a fantastic workout without worrying about the risk of injuring myself more.
Since joining Blitzfit I have completely transformed how I see myself and my abilities. I have gone from having very little or no confidence in myself, to realising I can actually achieve anything I set my mind to. I don't have a single day where I regret my decision to join. Not only have I increased my fitness and gained more self-confidence, I have also gained a lot of amazing and supportive friends. Where before I used to have to drag myself to the gym, I now easily get up in the mornings to go to boot camp. It's a 20-30 minute drive for me to get there which means getting up at 4:40am, but that is easy to do when you know you’re not only going to get a fantastic workout, but you’re also going to have a lot of fun. I highly recommend Blitzfit to anyone looking to workout and have fun with an AWESOME team."
